MVA, DMV AND MVB DRIVING RESTRICTIONS:

Important Facts

The requirement for corrective lenses to operate a motor vehicle is based on results of the Motor Vehicle Administration (M.V.A.), Department of Motor Vehicles (D.M.V.) and the Motor Vehicle Bureau (M.V.B.) vision screening device, or results obtained through a comprehensive visual evaluation by a licensed eye doctor. The screening is not an adequate vision examination. In no way does the device diagnose changes in the health of the eye. The results do not rule out reading or computer related vision problems. In many cases the vision screening at the M.V.A., D.M.V. and M.V.B is not an accurate predictor of a persons ability to operate a motor vehicle with or without some type of vision correction.

You should question the validity of these results. At your request, the M.V.A., D.M.V. and M.V.B. will send you a vision evaluation form. This form may be filled out by your eye doctor based on the results of a complete vision examination. This form will enable you to bypass the vision screening section required at time of liscensing. These results will accurately reflect your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely as well as evaluate the health of your eyes. In some cases the vision examination may eliminate the need for vision restrictions placed on motorists by the state.
