Iritis

Iritis, also know as Uveitis, is a condition of inflammation of the Iris, or colored part, of the eye. Iritis may be brought on by infection or systemic inflammatory condition such as sarcoid, rheumatoid arthritis, gout and several other arthritic conditions. People with ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of Iritis also.

Symptoms of Iritis include sensitivity to bright lights, eye pain, tearing, redness and blurry vision. It is extremely important to see your eye care doctor immediately when experiencing similar symptoms, since Iritis can lead to increased eye pressure if left untreated. Your doctor may treat this condition by giving you eyedrops that blur your vision and steroid eye drops or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory eye drops.
