Instructions for removing a soft contact
lens
- Wash your hands thoroughly using a pure soap that does not
contain additives - anti-bacterial pump soap is the best. Be sure to rinse all
soap off of your hands before handling contact lens. If necessary, use a
fingernail brush to thoroughly clean the fingers and hands.
- Close or cover the drain when working over a basin. Dr. Glazier
recommends putting a paper towel over the drain and the bottom of the sink.
- YOU MUST KEEP BOTH EYES OPEN WHILE REMOVING YOUR CONTACT
LENSES
- There are two ways you can remove the lens. 1st, wet your
finger with your rinsing solution. Pull your lower eyelid down and look up
towards the ceiling. Gently touch the lens with the wet finger and pull or
brush the lens towards your lower eyelid. Keep looking up and brushing down; if
you don't get it and look straight ahead again, the lens will center again and
you will be starting all over. When the lens finally comes out, you will feel
it in your fingers, but don't keep looking to see if it is out. If this doesn't
work, try looking toward your nose, gently touch the lens with the wet finger
and pull or brush the lens towards your ear. When it is off-center and on the
temporal white part of your eye you may be able to pinch it off, but again,
don't look to see if you've gotten it, because it will center again and you
will have to start over.
