Instructions for cleaning a soft contact
lens
- Wash your hands thoroughly using a pure soap that does not contain
additives - anti-bacterial pump soap is the best. Be sure to rinse all
soap off of your hands before handling contact lens. If necessary, use a
fingernail brush to thoroughly clean the fingers and hands.
- Close or cover the drain when working over a basin. Dr. Glazier
recommends putting a paper towel over the drain and the bottom of the
sink.
- Remove your contact lenses. In the palm of your hand, rinse the lens
thoroughly for 5 seconds on each side of the lens.
- Fill a fresh, new case with the same solution you used to rinse the
lens and let soak overnight. If your case has been used before, dump
solution from prior use, rinse thoroughly with new solution, then refill
and put your lenses in. DO NOT RINSE LENSES OR CASE WITH TAP
WATER. Alcohol case, boil case briefly or replace with new case
every 2 weeks.
- DO NOT EXTEND WEAR OF YOUR LENSES PAST RECOMMENDED WEARING
TIME. The FDA has done detailed studies on your lens to determine
the period of time through which they can be safely worn and disposed
of. This is the FDA's limit; not your doctors, and extending the use of
your lens can lead to eye infections, eye inflammations and conditions
that may cause a need to have you totally discontinue contact lens wear
for more than 6 months
